Compassion, Community and Comfort

Diary Entry, 16th March 2018:

“What is the worst kind of pain imaginable? It is one that takes a toll on you emotionally, hurts you physically, and cuts you deeper than anything you have ever felt before. It incapacitates you when you are conscious and awake and jolts you to your senses when you are not.”

On the 7th of August 2014, my life changed for reasons I might divulge one day. This is a snippet of my personal diary that I kept after that day.

We’re ordinary people, with ordinary skills and habits. Life is simple. Unfortunately, when life is simple, we often become complacent. We become so comfortable and content that we start taking the drive and awareness we used to have for granted.

When our lives change, for good or bad, we need to turn to the people who matter most to us. We rely on our loved ones, our friends, and our family.

While my diary entry may sound dreary, pain can sometimes be character-building, not breaking. This pain, combined with the love and support of the people we care about, shapes us into the strong, well-adjusted person we were always meant to be.

To become who you’re meant to be, you need to be able to see the good in every situation. Instead of being swept away in a swell of unhappiness when something didn’t go according to plan, we need to accept that no matter how dark the situation, we always have the power to choose good, be selfless, and be willing to sacrifice certain things for the needs of others.

I soon learned that life has a funny way of teaching us lessons. Doing good for others almost always means that good would eventually find its way back to you. And that, in part, is why my wife, Kate, and I started Little Lads & Lasses.

Our vision is the share our values of love and compassion with wonderful people just like you. And what better way to do that than to start by cultivating true love and compassion for Mother Nature herself?
